Freemasonry in Redditch
Eight worthy men met on the evening of Tuesday January 23rd 1900 at the offices of Mr W.S. Tunbridge solicitor to consider the advisability of forming a Freemasons Lodge in Redditch.
By the following Friday, a lease on the Old Warwick Arms had been secured.
Lord Ernest Seymour had been persuaded to give his name and become the first Worshipful Master of Seymour Lodge No. 2804.
And thus was the start of more than one hundred years of Masonic history in Redditch.
From these early days of Masonry in Redditch there have been many additions over the years and much increased interest in Freemasonry in Redditch, so much so that besides the formation of Bordesley Abbey Lodge No.4495, in 1923, there have been two other Masonic ‘Craft’ Lodges formed in Redditch, Forge Mill Lodge No.9658, in 1996 within the Province of Worcestershire and Ipsley Lodge No. 6491, in 1947 within the Province of Warwickshire.
Freemasonry in Redditch moved from the original temple in Ipsley Street to its current location in Easemore Road in 1997 when the existing 4 Lodges purchased the current building and converted it into a Masonic Hall.
Two Lodges have moved to the Redditch Masonic Hall in recent years. Those being St Augustine’s Lodge No.3713, in the Province of Warwickshire, in 2005 and White Ensign Lodge No.9169, in the Province of Worcestershire, in 2012.
There are also other ‘Degrees’ & ‘Side Orders’ domiciled in Redditch, which include, 2 Mark Master Mason’s Lodges, 2 Royal Ark Mariner’s Lodges, 3 Holy Royal Arch Chapters, a Knights Templar Preceptory, a Knights of Malta Priory, and a Rose Croix Chapter.
The Redditch Masonic Hall is quite unique in that Orders from two different provinces meet in the same building, this came about by the changing of county and Provincial boundaries over a number of years.
Our Masonic Hall has a stairlift facility, handicapped toilets and an inductive loop system in both the Temple, its adjoining ante-room and in the dining area.
We also have free on-site parking to the rear of our premises for around 20 cars with further ‘off-road’ parking available nearby.
